One in five kids and teens have anxiety, depression, or substance abuse (e.g., stress, bullying, and family problems)—neglect, abuse, and violence damage a child’s brain development, producing mental illness. Half of the mental illnesses start at 14 and 24. Traumatized children benefit from emotional intelligence, mental health, and involvement in education. Suicide ranks second among the life-risk causes among 10-to-34-year-olds. Incomplete emotional and self-control development is risky. Skills programmes help youth live independently and succeed in school or a career by lowering stress, anxiety, drug and alcohol use, incarceration, and increasing graduation and employment rates. According to a study, social-cognitive assistance boosts graduation rates by 14%, and peers support youngsters' mental health.
